Yasi Shamtoub, Ph.D.
Dr. Shamtoub is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and the founder of Math Tutor Beverly Hills. Her research, teaching, and clinical background blend into a unique skill set which allow her to understand and work effectively with the needs of each individual student. She believes that motivation comes from feeling successful and that people grow when they are loved well. She aims to create a warm and nurturing atmosphere to help students reach their goals.
She completed her undergraduate studies at UCLA where she graduate with Magna Cum Laude honors (2005) and also did research in a cognitive psychology lab on introducing desirable difficulties to enhance learning and memory. Soon after, she pursued her graduate studies in the field of clinical psychology earning a MA in 2009 and her PhD in 2013.
She has close to 15 years tutoring experience with the bulk of her tutoring experience predominately in math. She has worked with students of all ages ranging from elementary to adult students. She loves teaching algebra I & II and geometry, particularly geometry courses with proofs. She tutors up to trigonometry/precalculus, but also in various other subjects such as psychology, English, and chemistry.
Individual sessions can be tailored to include (1) test preparation to maintain or improve grades, (2) homework help, (3) strengthening organizational, time management, and study skills, (4) increasing cognitive flexibility and problem solving ability in novel situations, (5) promoting self esteem, motivation, creativity, and willingness to take risks, and (6) teaching students how to learn effectively and efficiently.
